Periodontics

Periodontics is a subject which deals with the periodontium and the diseases associated with it. Periodontal disease in simple terms can be called gum disease which affects majority of the population. It deals with the foundation of the tooth i.e. the Gingiva, Periodontal Ligament, Bone & Cementum.

The Department of Periodontics at V.S. Dental College & Hospital, Bangalore offers a graduate, three year post graduate programme and two year post graduate diploma course awarded by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore. The advanced training programme in Periodontics is approved and accredited by the Dental Council of India.

The Department of Periodontics provides instruction and clinical experience dealing with the etiology, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases of the periodontium in adults. This includes surgical placement of implants and implant maintenance.

The comprehensive mission of the Department of Periodontics is:

  • To train under graduate and post graduate students in the art and science of Periodontics to meet and exceed the standards laid out by the Dental Council of India.
  • To train dental specialists in the field of Periodontics for academic and research careers.
  • To advance knowledge in Periodontics through research and community service.
  • To educate and facilitate the continuing education of dental professionals in practice.
